Inline Tube - Parking Brake Cable Installation

Common installation problems
The most common problem with cables not fitting properly is that they are installed incorrectly or are missing hooks. The large hook mounts to the transmission cross brace to the passenger side of the car. The small hook locations are one on each side to the floor brace in the center of the car. For exact location, see your maintenance or assembly manual.

Flat cable housings versus spiral wind cable housings
As in many areas of the auto industry, multiple manufacturers were used to make brake cables. Some cable housings are flat wind in which a flat metal stock is wound to make the cable housing. Others are a series of wires held together by one spring wrap. Both cables are correct and function the same. Appearance is the only difference. No factory brake cable was ever made with a black plastic housing. Usually the longer cables are made of the wire wrap and shorter cables of the flat wind material. Both are factory correct; we use what is most common on that vehicle. On orders for stainless cables, the flat housing material is not available in stainless, so they are made using the factory correct OEM steel housing. The rest of the cable parts are all stainless steel.

Quick Tip: Parking Brake Installation

Cable Installation - Refer to the disassembly photos. There are many holes in the frame and it is impossible to remember which are the correct holes for hook mounting. If you do not have photos, many parts retailers and Inline tube sell factory assembly manuals that show in detail where each of the parts are located on the car. The manuals are available for cars such as Camaro, Chevelle, Nova, and Corvette through Inline Tube.
