Inline Tube Detail Tags

GM Detail Line Tags

 
All cars from the factory had part tags. Over the years, rain, snow and restoration have removed most of them. These paper tags were used to identify the part or assembly to the factory line worker. The worker read the build sheet and installed the corresponding part or option on the car. Usually tags were placed on parts that were an option or group of options. Example; Frame: you could have a hardtop, convertible or 4 doors, so the frame was marked for identification. Many parts came as assemblies: rear axle, steering column, disc or drum brakes, and master cylinder & booster assemblies. These assemblies had identification tags. When a car came from the factory the tag could of been anywhere on the part, sometimes not even visible or straight. These tag sets are compiled from original build sheets using the most common options and components. The build sheet is the finger print of the car and since no 2 cars are exactly the same, either are the build sheets. A 1969 GTO could have one of 12 coil spring combinations, depending on; engine, transmission, and handling package. The rear axle could be one of 17 depending on ratio and options. The sets are made up using the most common options and are not intended to be an exact match to any particular car.

GM Gas Tank Stencil. United States Steel made the sheet metal for gas tanks before they were stamped into parts. All the metal was ink stamped. Over 35 years this stamp has worn off or is covered with undercoating. The stamp can be located anywhere on the tank facing 0, 90 or 180 degrees. Put this stencil on the tank, spray paint over it and pull off the stencil. These are most common in black but we have also seen light-med blue. If you are after a first place car, this is the added edge. This is another Inline Tube exclusive item and was used on all GM tanks.
